A peak at the new Beef Steak tomato. More to come...

Looks like we will have plenty of Zucchini. There are lots of blossoms and a few tiny Zucchini. Some say the blossoms are also edible, but I will be happy with fresh baby zukes.

Trying some corn this year. If it does well, I will be planting a lot more in the years to come. They say the corn is the sweetest just after being picked and then it is all down hill. Can’t wait to pick corn and throw it on the grill and eat it – all in a matter of minutes. Part of what Kitchen Gardening is all about.

This is an Early Girl tomato. It is almost 3 feet high and very bushy. Like most indeterminate plants its going to continue growing.

A nice shot of the herb bed. You can see Chives (with the purple bloom,Sweet Basil in the center, and some Oregano in the fore front. The flowers are Marigolds, Nasturiums, the red Petunias.

The teepee is up and the pole beans are climbing.

The Pumpkins have started to take over the their surroundings. I still need to thin the punmpkins because there are 2 on each hill.

The Herb Bed is 75% covered and I still have a small area to plant. Lots of Basil and Parsley, with a small, but healthy, representation of Chives, Sage and Oregano. As planned, there are lots of flowers flowing down the center. Starting with last years Nasturtiums with Marigolds right next to them. Some nice red Petunias followed by Cosmos. Some Larkspur, Zinnias and then Begonias round out the walk of flowers.

And here is a shot of some very healthy bush beans.

Mary and Susan took over Bed 1 and have adopted a very eclectic style. They left any flowers in the bed that have reseeded themselves from last year. All hail the volunteers. They planted 4 tomatoes that were left over and are nursing them back to health. Six stalks of sweet corn. A summer squash. A lemon scented geranium. And then went wild spreading a mix of seeds that we ordered from Catalogues, bought at the San Francisco Flower and Garden show or purchased from a local nursery. We do not what to expect, but it will be one of a kind.

A beautiful weekend for gardening. I put two of the giant pumpkins in the ground with lots of chicken poop. The whole back area has 6+ inches of mulch and the pumpkins are quietly nestled there. There are a whole lot of worms in the soil these days. It must be all the mulch.

I finally started work on The New Raised Bed. At one end I put a zucchini and the other a cucumber. I will let them climb over the edges of the raised bed to save more planning space. Bought 2 six packs of Blue Lake Bush beans and some wood to make teepees for them to climb. I planted two hills and left room for a third hill between them. I got a good start on peppers with Anaheim and Poblano. I bought some small inexpensive tomato cages to support them. Here is how it looks so far:
